Now that 485 is allowed till 17th what should be a strategy for H4 visa. I am sure many of us must be planning to get married earlier and get our spouse here. If she is asked during visa interview about why sudden rush to get H4 should she just say family reasons or mention the intent to file 485. H1/H4 is a dual intent visa and thus as far as I know telling visa officer the reason for sudden rush is to file 485 should not be a problem.
But I want other peoples opinion on this. Any suggestions or does anyone see any potential problem with this scenario.

I have 2 H1B Transfer questions for clarification.
1. Can H1B Transfer be filed when H1B Extension is pending with the current employer?
Yes, a transfer could be filed while an extension is pending. This is the so-called anchor transfer. However, the transfer would be denied if the extension petition is withdrawn before the transfer is approved.
2. Do i need to have copy of I-140 approval notice for H1B Tranfer? The current employer does not share this document.
The 140 approval notice is not required unless this is a post six year transfer/extension.

I am happy to read this. My observation is that Indian-American US citizens generally don't care about the Indians who are going through the process of immigration. In November 2005 when some one approached IAFPE with retorgression problem, their NC chapter conducted a seminar in Raleigh and some 100+ members did sign a petition. But they handed over petition to Bobby Jindal and it looks like from what is reported elsewhere on this site, he belongs to anti immigrant camp. But except this seminar even this organization did not take more interest in this issue. But I hope India Community Center has shown way and more Indian-American as well as Chinese associations would come forward to support the issue. Can some one approach Asia Society in DC who last week organised a speech by President Bush?

The American Immigration Policy Center issued an excellent Fact Sheet about H2A farm orkers and the need for reform.
The Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits, and Security (AgJOBS) Act has long served as a blueprint for comprehensive immigration reform. AgJOBS, which combines an earned legalization program for farmworkers with a reform of the H-2A temporary foreign agricultural worker program demonstrates a successful model for compromise where workers and employers have come together to resolve their differences. The dysfunctional U.S. immigration system is currently standing in the way of addressing deeper structural problems that impact U.S. workers and U.S. competitiveness in a globalized market. As Congress proceeds, here are a few facts about the current challenges at the intersection of immigration policy and agriculture, and why addressing these issues is critical to the nation�s economy.
Here is an interesting fact :Most farmworkers are not authorized to work legally in the U.S.
According to the National Agricultural Workers Survey (NAWS), conducted biannually by the Department of Labor, the share of seasonal agricultural workers who reported that they were unauthorized has increased dramatically in the last two decades, rising from 7% in Fiscal Year (FY) 1989, to 16% in FY 1990-91, to 28% in FY 1992-93. In the most recently published NAWS survey from FY 2001-02, 53% of all seasonal agricultural workers admitted they were not authorized to work in the U.S. However, many experts suggest that the number may actually be closer to 75%.

Me and spouse got the "Card production ordered" and "Welcome notice" emails today morning.
Here is the journey:
Nov.2002 - RIR Labor filed in CA
June 2006 - Labor approved from Phily BEC
July 2006 - I-485 , I-140 filed at TSC
Sept.2006 - I-140 approved
Got stuck in namecheck ( name check may be still pending )
May 20, 2008 - RFE received for missing TB Skin test ( doctor screwed up)
June 4, 2008 - Responded to RFE
June 16, 2008 - Green card approved
Now, waiting for the actual card to arrive.

Disclaimer- I am from Hyderabad and I have no intention to divide the forum members based on their native places. I know that there were some controversial postings on visa stamping in hyderabad consulate. I found a stamping experience in murthy and thoughT to share with you all.

My interview went fine. I got the H1 stamping done today at hyd counselate. The interview was pretty short. I showed him all the important certificates ( Passport + petition + Hdfc fee slip + DS forms ). Then he asked me the following questions:
Why do I want to go to US?
where I am working?
How long have I been working?
What do I do in my job?
APPROVED!
This is my number -- **********. If u have any question give me a call. This number is valid till april10th... after that I will be in US.

Is there any risk in rescheduling a fingerprinting appt? I am travelling when the appointment is currently scheduled for:(. Does that impact the overall processing times of 485/EAD/AP?

You cannot file for EAD or AP unless your get your I-485 receipt (A copy of the receipt notice needs to be included in the EAD and AP application). The EAD and AP should go to the same service center as your I-485 application. The address will be listed on your I-485 receipt notice. Pretty straight forward, you can do it yourself, do not pay a lawyer for preparing these documents. Good luck.

It is best to not do anything while on the B visa, and relinquish the B status, then either re-enter on a stronger intent visa (H1/H4 or L1) and then file 485 or file the 485 from outside the country.
Agree with what mihir is telling here. Just a minor correction - 485 can be filed only when one is present in the US.
